Short sessions and counting breaths

A short session this morning at home as there was a major prayer event at the main temple in McLeod Ganj which i wanted to go to.

I tried counting my breaths and found that i reached 21 with some difficulty once after which i got to nine or ten before my mind wandered. I also tried visualising an object and could see how it would help keep the mind alert. I am not convinced to give that a complete go yet however.

Sitting for shorter sessions does make sense however given how quickly my mind tires. Breaking it up with standing and/or walking meditation would be ideal. That is something to try anyhow.

The prayer ceremony at the temple turned out to be a major event with the dalai lama being present. I stayed on the lower courtyard amongst the pine trees with many of the tibetans and it felt like a relaxed family picnic, albeit one with chanting. It was nice seeing the Dalai Lama walking past smiling and greeting assorted people. I felt a surge of affection for him, something i rarely feel for anyone i dont know.

Maybe i am a Buddhist after all.
